Selecting the right activated carbon
Choose an activated carbon material with a high specific surface area and appropriate pore size distribution to maximize its adsorption capacity for carbon dioxide.

Pre-treatment of activated carbon

Adsorption process
When carbon dioxide gas comes into contact with activated carbon, CO₂ molecules enter the micro- and mesopores through physical or chemical adsorption. The extensive surface area and pore structure provide abundant adsorption sites.

Adsorption equilibrium
Under specific temperature and pressure conditions, an adsorption equilibrium is established between the activated carbon and carbon dioxide, meaning the rates of adsorption and desorption become equal, resulting in a stable adsorption state.

Regeneration process
Once the activated carbon reaches saturation, it can be regenerated to release and recover the adsorbed CO₂. Regeneration methods include reducing temperature, lowering pressure, or applying other suitable techniques.

It is important to note that the adsorption capacity of activated carbon is limited. In large-scale applications, factors such as adsorption efficiency, regeneration energy consumption, and economic feasibility must be considered. Additionally, parameters like exhaust gas flow rate, pressure, and temperature should be optimized, often in combination with other technologies and equipment, to achieve efficient CO₂ capture.
